WOW Writing!

It's hard to believe that we are already into October! The weather is finally beginning to cool down (well, cool down by Texas standards that is) and my students are totally finding their own grooves. I must say, this year- teaching 2 sections of 4th grade ELA has been the best year yet. I feel like I am making a bigger impact than I ever have before. Student engagement is on the rise and we finally have our hands on all of the technology resources we need. Yep, I'd say October is going to be a fantastic month!

The thing I'm most excited for this week is reading my 4th graders' 1st PUBLISHED Narrative Compositions! We learned about Watermelon and Seed Ideas, we picked our way down to the core of those ideas, we have worked our way through the writing process, we are ready to publish! Our WOW Writing Wall is finally going to get some use :) This portion of our room extends our Writing Center. After students have published their compositions, we share during Author's Chair. After sharing, students nominate parts and pieces of one another's work to be displayed proudly on our WOW Wall! We will be looking for all of the great aspects of wonderful writing.

  1. Organization
  2. Excellent Word Choice
  3. Conventions
  4. Ideas
  5. Sentence Fluency
  6. VOICE
Our sad, empty WOW Writing Wall is about to get some great writing companions :)
