Fri-YAY, App Day Presents: Twitter!
"Twitter won't change your life, but it might make your job more fun and a little easier." -NEA Can Tweeting Help Your Teaching? You may be asking yourself, "Twitter? Really? Why?" I had these same thoughts until just a few months ago. I previously viewed Twitter as just another social media app that appeared on my husband's phone for hours a day. Now, Facebook & Instagram, those are some apps I can spend countless hours on... But, Twitter? I didn't really see the point. That is, until I finally got on Twitter.
To me Twitter is:
- A way to connect with people
- A platform for learning
- A space to get my questions answered
- A supportive environment of like minded individuals
- A FREE form of Professional Development that I can do in my PJs, while laying in bed or on the couch and watching the Housewives (Win, Win, Win)
Since joining Twitter I have become better connected with educators all over the world, and in return have learned so much! Everyday I emerge from my classroom with a new idea (or 10) and rush over to tell my team about the awesome new things I want to try. They ask, "Where do you come up with this stuff?" My response: TWITTER!

Can Tweeting Help Your Teaching? This article provided me with a lot of great insight and ideas. One quote in particular sums it all up, "Twitter won't change your life, but it might make your job more fun and a little easier." I've been teacher tweeting for only a few months and I already see this to be so true! I have learned from strangers, connected with teachers across the country and implemented many new techniques into my room all from TWITTER!

The ASCD posted an article 5 years ago-yes, 5 YEARS AGO called Digitally Speaking / Why Teachers Should Try Twitter. Gosh did I feel late to the party after reading that article. When I think about how much more I could have learned, implemented and been supported on over the past 5 years it makes me want to cry.
Last but not least, Why Teachers Should Use Twitter. This article is written from the engaging narrative perspective of a teacher! It is a MUST read :)
