Technology Tips Engagement To the Top
If you've ever been in my classroom, or listened to me excitedly babble on about technology, you probably know that I'm a bit obsessed with integrating technology into my daily curriculum.
Technology, to me, is the easiest way to engage students and put them in the driver's seat of their own learning. The use of technology itself can be simple. It can be as simple as creating a quick sorting activity using Activ Inspire and our AWESOME Box Light Interactive Projectors.
This week in 4th grade, my students are extending their understanding of Verbs. We have entered the world of Present, Past and Past Participle (say that 2 times fast, or ask a 4th grader to pronounce it...no really, it's pretty cute to hear them s o u n d it out!) Verbs. To help my amazing little learners make the connection that they already, deep down inside, know this skill we completed a Virtual sort! Students used a tri-fold in their Interactive Writing Journals to capture their responses and eagerly volunteered to sort the irregular verbs on the board. To further their understanding, students were asked to justify their choices with a sentence correctly using these crazy, irregular verbs.
I knew this lesson was a SUCCESS when the first student "justified" his answer by saying "I have did my homework...wait! That sounds funny! I have DONE my homework!" We were all just as proud of him as he was himself for listening to his sentence and realizing he had made a mistake. I would say, it was a successful day of learning in 4th grade.
Do I think technology is fun? Yes.
Do I think technology is a great organizer? Oh yes!
Do I truly believe that technology improves student engagement? You betcha!
