See Your Students' Successes with SEESAW!

Over the past 2 weeks I have become obsessed with another new piece of technology integration (shocking I know)! This Tech Tip Tuesday is brought to you by one of the best things since Netflix: Seesaw!

What is Seesaw?
http://web.seesaw.me/

Seesaw is a virtual portfolio for your students' work. It's easy to use. It's effective. It's motivating. It's awesome.

Real Talk:  "Seesaw empowers students of any age to independently document what they are learning at school. Students capture learning with photos and videos of physical work, or by adding digital creations. Everything is uploaded and kept organized for teachers. Teachers can invite families to Seesaw so parents get an immediate, personalized window into their child's learning."

I originally discovered this little gem on Instagram. I follow a 5th grade teacher (MSGRAY5) from Stamford, CT who posted a photo of her class using Seesaw on IG. I was instantly intrigued & sent her a private message. She emailed me back right away with some tips for getting started. The rest is history!

Getting Started

F I R S T: To effectively use Seesaw you will need to have 2 things: Internet access and a smartphone/tablet. In my classroom I only have access to laptops so I brought in 2 old (ancient, really) iPhones to have my kiddos utilize. Would it be easier to implement if we had 1:1 devices? Of course! BUT- since educators can't turn water into wine, we improvise!

N E X T: You need to head on over to web.seesaw.me (you could do this step from your mobile device, but I would recommend doing it on your computer) Once you have arrived at the Seesaw site, sign up for FREE using your Google account. Then, download the FREE Seesaw app onto your mobile device.

T H I R D: Pat yourself on the back, you're moving in the right direction toward empowering your students and keeping families in the loop!

F O U R T H: Log in and set up your first class. Need help? Take a gander at this quick tutorial on setting up your classes in Seesaw.

F I F T H: Let your students begin uploading their work to your class Seesaw! Watch this tutorial on how to implement this tool in your classroom.

F I N A L L Y: Sit back, relax, admire, comment on and applaud your students' accomplishments :)

Ready to take Seesaw to the next level?
Check out this tutorial on creating folders within each class to organize student work.
(Think about adding folders for subject areas, projects or even a special folder for Parent Conferences)
Once you have accumulated some great artifacts, don't forget to invite your parents to join their child's Seesaw Journal!
